Week Ending 1st October

This week, the children have been undertaking a variety of activities based on the story book "A Chair for Baby Bear!"
Activity 1: Personal and Social Development, Well Being and Cultural Diversity
The children have been taking our bear around the Under Fives Unit (both indoors and outdoors) to show him what happens in each area and to think about ways that we can make changes to the unit to improve it even further.

Activity 2: Language, Literacy and Communication
The children have been practising tracing patterns using pictures linked to our theme so that they can enjoy this as part of their enhanced activities. (Each week, the children also take part in daily phonics activities differentiated to their ability and enjoyed through play!)

Activity 3: Language, Literacy and Communication
The children have been in the three bears house alongside their teacher using language and play appropriate to the story e.g. “making” porridge, putting out three plates and three cups etc.

Activity 4: Mathematical Development
The children have been weighing parcels of different shapes, sizes and weights (linked to the class story).

Activity 5: Creative Development

The children have been designing and making a chair for baby bear using junk modelling and working together as part of a team.

Activity 6: Creative Development
The children have been outdoors using our new giant building blocks to try and build a castle (linked to the class story). They had fun working together as part of a team.

The children have also been participating in a variety of other activities provided through the enhanced areas within the Unit, which are linked to the weekly theme and therefore changed on a weekly basis. This includes sand play, water play, role play, dressing up, ICT, construction, investigating, music, collage, cutting and sticking, painting, playdough and clay, number, drawing, mark making, jigsaws, reading, enjoying books and listening to music. The children now have constant access to the outdoors environment and many activities take place outside. The children have access to obstacle courses, play house, slide and play frame, bikes and trikes.
